Architectural Accents in Bronze
Architectural Accents in Bronze (part 2)
with
Josh Dow and Lauren Holmgren of Green Foundry
April 11-13, 2010 (3 days)
Tuition:$450.00 for part 2 only, $400.00 with part 1
Skill level: Beginner and up
This three day workshop will familiarize the participant in the methods of bronze casting from a gas fired furnace. The focus will be on casting parts that are designed and molded from oil based clay, cast in plaster to produce a molding board then cast in bronze, unique accents, rosettes and medallions to complement a decorative forged railing segment. This method you will learn can give you full customization of your work and is simple enough to do on your own once the basics are learned. Come experience the new Foundry and casting floor that the NESM has to offer. As a participant you can expect to learn the fundamentals of sand casting using an oil based sand system called Petro-bond, oil-clay sculpturing and plaster casting. This class is directly linked to the Joinery of Architectural Iron class being given just before, I strongly suggest the value of taking both to give you a comprehensive knowledge of some typical 19th century work.
