MARCH 2010
LAST CALL !! on the Japanese Sword Fitting class, due to low enrollment we may be canceling this unique workshop, if you are waiting to enroll, you may miss out
Congratulations to Jon-Paul Dowdell of Washington and Michael Austin of New Hampshire, winners of the Al Pratt Memorial Scholarship for 2010.
Great things are happening with our Dorm Renovations to the classroom building of the school, permits in hand and rough framing almost complete on the second floor, the first floor in finished as well. Stay tuned for the details of the dorm room availability.
Some of you may notice that the Summer Session Workshops featuring our wonderful guest instructors have gone up in price. We have made every effort to maintain the same prices over the past 5 years, however, with the school adding dorm rooms and kitchen facilities available in spring, we also anticipate a limited amount of evening workshop time will follow. With extra hours in the shop our expenses will go up as well. In light of this we have raised our workshop tuitions by $50.00 and actually when you look at the added benefit of the dorm rooms/ kitchen and evening hours you will be recieving more and saving a lot of money.

We would like to send out a tremendous thank you to all involved in making the first ever ABS Knife Symposium held in New England a great success. The event was such a success that we will be doing it again next year as well as being approved as only the third location in the United States to provide certified training for the ABS. We will begin offering ABS certified classes for anyone beginning or continuing their ABS Journeymen-ship in the March of 2010. I want to personally thank everyone involved who helped make the event so successful, thank you. Dereck Glaser, Director Let's keep up the energy, the 2010 ABS-NESM blade symposium is being held July 23-25. Our first ABS Intro class is full and the next one is November 8-19, 2010, sign up soon. |
Galleries are updated. Both the Student Gallery and the Instructor Gallery. Our site offers a great opportunity to view any album as a slide show, you can change image size and speed of the show. We also have well over 30 different instructors to view. Please use this as a resource for studying other smith's styles.
We have added a new page to this site. Our "Projects" page has been developed and located under "About Us". It will be highlighting some of the interesting developments we are working on. Some of these are spawn by the new and developing workshop curriculum we are always improving and some are based on curiosities we have. Enjoy !

Through a generous grant we have begun construction on a new concept, a Mobile Weld Training Center. We are constantly aware of the needs of the welding industry throughout New England, it has become obvious that our training needs to be as flexible as possible to accommodate the needs of various manufactures and companies. As such, we are building a 300+ square foot Mobile Weld Training Center for remote training. This endeavor will be fully self sustaining of power and welding gas needs. It will be capable of training up to eight students at a time for hands on welding and safety training as well as trade theory and classroom discussion. See images and details for the Mobile Weld Training Center
DO YOU NEED A PLACE TO WORK??

After a considerable amount of time and energy, the school has officially become a 501 C-3 non-profit organization. We needed to do this for the obvious reasons but it also now allows us to offer more than we could before as far as developing scholarship programs, apprenticeships, fundraisers and obviously to accept any of your generous contributions as a tax deduction to you. If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation of any kind( cash or product) please contact Dereck Glaser, the Director at dglaser@newenglandschoolofmetalwork.com
