Grab this opportunity to make your very own set of blacksmithing tools.

For a craftsmen to be successful at a trade that uses metal, one must be able to produce the tooling required for the job at hand.  This class will address the issue of today's blacksmith needing tools.  As a warm up we will forge some simple scroll tongs,  the to Wolf jaw and then Bolt-End or V-bit style tongs.  Tools to follow will include, cross-peen hammers, hot chisels, hot punches, bending forks, cold chisels, center punches, scribes and related tools of blacksmithing you need help with. The class will use simple tool steels 4140, 1045 and mild steels. Hardening and tempering and proper heat treatment will be covered. Be prepared to come with needs and leave with tools. This will be a very challenging class for a beginner with NO experience, I  recommend you know your basics for this class.

We were able to make some beautiful high carbon material! #homemadesteel #makesometoolsLee Sauder is amazing asset to our community and it was a pleasure to have him back for another smelting workshop. This is the climax, when a big beautiful bloom of Iron gets brought into the world! #bloomerysmelting #oretoiron #nothingtosomethingRED hammer faces, means one thing, it’s Smelting Week at NESM.
