Al Pratt Memorial Scholarship

It has been a full seven years already that the New England School of Metalwork has been running and even from the first year it had been a goal of mine to create a self- sustaining scholarship fund for the school to offer. Well that time came this year.  As you can understand creating a scholarship takes some money, money that a non profit generally does not have. As such, I had the concept to develop a self-sustaining endeavor that would maintain a fund for this purpose.
In May of 2007 we had our first metal art show entitled “Metal; the Art of Force”, it was a great success and was the springboard to launch a new venue for us which is our virtual art gallery apart of our new website. The Albiston Gallery has been designed to showcase metal artist and their work. Between these two projects, we have developed the resources to introduce the Al Pratt Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The Al Pratt Memorial Scholarship Fund will award two scholarships per year, one to our welding program and one to our blacksmithing program. The Welding Scholarship will award the chosen applicant three full length welding courses plus a quality auto changing welding helmet and good quality leather jacket and gloves. The blacksmithing scholarship will give the winning applicant three full length workshops of their choice as well as a $500.00 stipend towards travel and accommodations. The workshops can be summer or winter and are up to the winner to choose.  I am quite excited to see the opportunity available to an individual to be given up to fifteen days of professional instruction at our facility.

Below you will find an information sheet as well as the official application. Deadline for application is February 1, 2008 and selections will be made and individuals notified by March 1, 2008.
